We use the before something specific or something which has already been mentioned, eg the shopping center.

We also use the before nouns which are unique, eg the Earth, the Moon.

Example. There’s a shopping center in my neighborhood.

The shopping Centre’s got four floors.

The Earth looks beautiful from the Moon.
