Nondefining Relative Clauses.

Nondefining relative clauses gives you extra information about the subject of a sentence. They are more often used in writing than in speech.

Example. The tree, which was struck by lightning, had to be cut down.

A.    Underline the extra information in each sentence.

 

1.    My brother, who moved to Japan, is coming home for a visit.

 

2.    Our store, which we opened last year, has been very successful.

 

3.    My friend, whose birthday was yesterday, just got a new bike.

 

4.    I found my watch, which I thought was lost, underneath the sofa.

 

5.    My grandmother, who is 77, goes hiking every weekend.
